Why Do Children Need Kids Body Connection?
The Mind + Body Connection supports the children by integrating studies of human science into the practice of physical education.
A study* published on student activity by the Committee on Physical Activity and Physical Education in the school associated with the NIH found evidence that fitness and physical education can positively affect children’s academic performance.
The evidence suggests that increasing activity and fitness may improve academic performance and time spent in physical activity in the classroom may also facilitate academic performance.
Available evidence suggests that mathematics and reading are the academic topics most influenced by physical activity
Executive brain and health underlie academic performance. Basic cognitive functions related to attention and memory facilitate learning
Single sessions of long-term participation in physical activity improve cognitive performance in brain health
Given the importance of time on task to learning, students should be provided with frequent physical activity breaks that are developmentally appropriate
Physically active lessons offered in classrooms may increase time on task and attention to the task in the classroom setting
Case Study
From 2018-2019, we partnered with Torrey Pines Elementary School for a year commitment to practice our program for 30 minutes per class, once a week. A select group of classrooms implemented the Kids Body Connection enrichment program as a school break support to enhance behavioral health needs and improve timed on-task learning during the school day.
Our program provided a trained instructor that began the daily practice with students while instructing volunteer facilitators. All training materials were provided and support necessary to the community volunteers, preparing them to effectively guide the class with our supervision.
A majority of the feedback we received from parents was how their children learned to use the Kids Body Connection breathing techniques to calm themselves as well as become aware of how to use their body. The feedback we received from students was how much they enjoyed the moment of silence as well as performing specific exercises.
